At about 4:30 p.m and then again at 4:45 p.m. helicopters landed in the parking lot at the front of the factory's offices. One fire truck, two ambulances and one Hempstead County Sheriff's Office vehicle remained in the lot.
By 5:00 p.m. about a dozen 18-wheeler trucks could be seen waiting in a line on Temple Drive, which leads to the plant.
Plant manager Chris Farrens, reached at about 5:20 p.m., said "We will have no comment at this time."
As of now Hempstead County Sheriff's Office Deputy Derick Bunn said that their office had no information to provide.
This evening Hope Fire Department Chief Todd Clark called the incident "an explosion with fire," confirmed that two people were airlifted out, one to LSU hospital and said he was not aware of any evacuation of the plant.
