Hogs Gash Grambling

Razorback freshman left fielder Drake Varnado (#9) from Port Neches, TX stretches a single into a double against Grambling Wednesday afternoon at Baum-Walker Stadium in Fayetteville, AR.

FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas completed its 2-game baseball series sweep of Grambling State Wednesday trouncing the Tigers, 13-3 stopped by an agreed upon 10-run rule in the eighth-inning at Baum-Walker Stadium.

The 13-3 Razorbacks of the SEC stopped their overmatched 5-12 opponent of the SWAC, 14-1 in the eighth-inning Tuesday.

Zack Morris, relieving freshman starter Austin Ledbetter of Bryant during the third inning, logged Wednesday’s win, paced by Razorbacks Chris Lanzilli and Peyton Stovall each netting three hits and three RBI.

Morris pitched 2 2-3 innings of scoreless relief followed by scoreless innings by relievers Heston Tole, two innings, and Nick Griffin, one inning.

Arkansas Coach Dave Van Horn used the two mismatches to try some younger players knowing it’s got to be his top lineup ready for the SEC season opening series against the Kentucky Wildcats Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday afternoon at Baum-Walker. The weekend’s game times are 6:30, 6:30 and noon.

“We pitched pretty well and our hitters took what they gave us,” Van Horn said. “I thought Morris threw the ball really well. Good to have a couple of midweek wins and I didn’t think we had anybody get hurt.”

Outfielder Jace Bohrofen, injuring a shoulder during last weekend’s series against Illinois-Chicago, will be out this weekend, but likely to return for the Razorbacks March 25-27 SEC series at Missouri, Van Horn said.
