HOPE – Two Hope High School teachers have been named to a special teacher cohort from competitive applications to become High Reliability Teacher Cohort 2 trained.
HHS business/computer science teacher Sheila Hopson and HHS social studies/computer science teacher Kathy Knight were notified of their selection by Dr. Roger Guevara, Education Renewal Zone Director and Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia.
“HRT Cohort2 was the most competitive round yet,” Dr. Guevara said.
He said the group represents an elite team of educators “with a shared vision of academic excellence and a willingness to begin a journey of best academic practices” through the HRT Cohort2 program.
HHS Principal Bill Hoglund said the selection was exciting news for HHS.
“Both teachers contribute to our leadership team and provide valuable input,” Hoglund said. “I am excited to watch their growth in this endeavor. We are pleased that two Hope High School teachers were selected in a competitive process for only 25 slots available. It says a lot about our faculty at HHS.”
Hopson has taught for more than 15 years, having been at HHS since 2018. Hopson was named the Hope Rotary Club Secondary Teacher of the year in 2020, serves as HHS yearbook advisor, HHS student council advisor, and is active in the Hope community, and she is an Arkansas Department of Education Computer Science Conference 2019 grantee.
Hopson is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Stateline chapter Order of Eastern Star, and she is the daughter of James “Jackie” and Shirley Ogden, and the mother of Devontay “Trey” Bradshaw.
Hopson graduated from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia with a BSE and she holds an MSE in curriculum and instruction from Concordia University. Knight is a graduate of Paris, Texas, High School and the University of Arkansas – Hope. She graduated with a BSE in social studies from Texas A&M University – Texarkana in 2006 prior to employment at HHS in 2008. Knight received an MS in history from TAMU-T in 2010
