FAYETTEVILLE - Cleared to practice  this week after apparently missing Arkansas’ 37-10 loss to Georgia because of  his second coronavirus related quarantine, Arkansas  fourth-year junior  cornerback Jarques McClellion announced Thursday afternoon he’s opting out of playing for the remainder of the 2020 season.

Because of the uncertainty created by the COVID-19 coronavirus, the NCAA allows fall sports  athletes to “opt out” of their 2020 fall season and retain their scholarship and  return if they wish with 2020 eligibility in 2021.

“After much thought and consideration with my family,  I have decided due to growing health concerns it’s best for me to opt out of the 2020 football season,” McClellion posted Thursday on Twitter.   “I’ve been quarantined twice since returning on June 1st and after watching my momma fight for life on the ventilator last year during the birth of my little sister this has really hit home for me and my family. I wish my university all the best this football season.” A 2-year starter under former Arkansas Coach Chad Morris after being signed to Arkansas by the Bret Bielema regime  McClellion  made 23 tackles  in 12 games as a 2018 redshirt freshman in 2019 in 11 games made 34 tackles and intercepted a pass
