NEW ORLEANS – Successfully defending the NCAA Indoor team championship this past weekend earned Arkansas women’s head coach Lance Harter another honor as he was named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Indoor Women’s Coach of the Year.

This marks the second consecutive indoor award for Harter and his fourth from indoor campaigns. The previous years he collected the indoor honor were in 2000, 2015, and 2019. The 2020 NCAA Indoor meet was canceled due to the pandemic.

The Razorbacks produced the third highest score in meet history, dating back to 1983 in women’s competition, with an output of 68 points.

Arkansas scored 58 of those points on the final day inside the Randal Tyson Track Center as they rallied from a 16-point deficit to Texas A&M, who led with 26 points heading into the final day and ended up as the team runner-up with 57 points.

An 11-point victory for the Razorbacks matched the winning margin they enjoyed in their 2019 national team title.

Starting the final day of the NCAA Indoor Championships trailing by 16 points, Arkansas generated 14 points in the mile off a silver and bronze medal performance to counter eight points by Texas A&M in the triple jump, the lone field event contested on Saturday.

Prior to the 3,000m, the final individual event before the 4x400 relay, the Razorbacks were within two points of the Aggies, 47-45. Then a 2-4-5 finish by Arkansas in the 3,000m netted 17 points and secured another national championship for the Razorbacks.

In addition to the 31 points supplied in distance races on the final day, the Razorbacks also added eight points from a silver medal performance during Friday’s distance medley relay.

An undefeated indoor campaign for Arkansas included five team-scored regular season meets, a SEC Indoor championship, and another national team title.
