Moses Moody Honor

FAYETTEVILLE - For the second consecutive week Arkansas star guard Moses Moody of Little Rock has been named SEC Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Week.
This week Moody, 28 points in Arkansas’ March 2 101-73 victory at South Carolina and 28 points in last Saturday’s 87-80 victory over Texas A&M, shares SEC Freshman of the Week honors with LSU’s Cameron Thomas averaging 23 points and 6.5 rebounds in victories over Vanderbilt and Missouri.
Texas A&M sophomore forward Emanuel Miller, averaging 23 points, 11.5 rebounds during losses to Mississippi State and Arkansas, was named SEC Player of the Week.
Moody, excelling on both ends of the floor leading Arkansas averaging 17.6 points but also a key defensive cog on the nationally eighth ranked/ SEC second-place Razorbacks, is considered a SEC Player of the Year candidate and should be, Arkansas Coach Eric Musselman said.
When asked about Moody as a SEC Player of the Year candidate after Arkansas’ victory over Texas A&M at Walton Arena, Musselman replied, “Through the regular season, Alabama (the nationally No.6 SEC champion) and Arkansas distanced themselves, so he’s on one of the two best teams in the league. At least through the regular season. We understand it’s a whole new season coming up for the tournament, which means it’s an extended period of time. I think he’s continued to get better all season long. He’s one of the best three-point shooters in college basketball. You saw what he can do defensively with that blocked shot tonight. And then you just look at his freshman stats, where he compares nationally. Those would be some of the arguments. He’s a go-to player on one of the two best teams in the league.”
The Razorbacks, concluding their regular season 21-5 overall/13-4 in the SEC, next play in Friday’s nights quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament in Nashville, Tenn. seeded against Thursday night’s winner between Missouri and Georgia.
