ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Ouachita Baptist University’s Rosemary Gossett Adams Department of Art & Design is hosting photographer Margo Duvall’s exhibit “All She Needed to Do” through Nov. 16 in Rosemary Adams Gallery 1 in Moses-Provine Hall. Duvall will speak about her work on Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 3 p.m. in Moses-Provine 206, with a reception immediately following.
The exhibit, presentation and reception are free and open to the public.Â
Duvall earned a bachelor’s degree in studio art from Humboldt State University in Arcata, Calif., and a Master of Fine Art degree in photography from San Jose (Calif.) State University. She is a visiting professor of photography at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas. Her art explores the role of photography in how we develop memory and identity.
“All She Needed to Do” deals with the meaning of loss, memory and connection through photographic artifacts and spaces. The exhibit was inspired by Duvall’s grandmother’s 96-year life, and the traces of her life recorded in photographs. According to Duvall’s website, these moments, “the special occasions, the mundane, the beauty of youth, the good ol’ days – are all frozen in time and held still in emulsion. This work attempts to hold those traces close, to give them space and another life. Some images attempt to recreate her moments through a modern lens. Some images just treasure the stillness that is … what remains.”Â
“For audiences, especially our students, Margo’s work also gives insight into the creative thinking of a photographer, storyteller and artist,” said Donnie Copeland, chair of the Adams Department of Art & Design. Â
Regular gallery hours are 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 9 a.m.–noon on Fridays. Ouachita students can gain Arts Engagement program credit by visiting this exhibit.Â
