A nearby county is embarked on a campaign to meet state rules that will allow it to declare itself wet but it has to meet a deadline coming up this Saturday.
Pike County is in the petition-phase of the campaign, needing 38 percent of its registered voters to sign. The requirements are that the signatures be of Pike County residents currently registered to vote there. Because each signature is carefully checked by the Arkansas Secretary of State’s office the campaign hopes to gather more than what would meet the 38 percent threshold before the deadline of Saturday, August 1st.
See the campaign’s Facebook site for more information.
