FAYETTEVILLE -- Some fans were confused when Cade Fortin entered the game for KJ Jefferson on Saturday afternoon instead of Malik Hornsby.

But Sam Pittman said following the game it wasn't a confusing situation.

"That decision has been made for a while," Pittman said. "So, he's our number two quarterback, so, we put him in there."

Fortin was 4 of 10 passing in the game for 35 yards in the game. Jefferson had suffered a head injury when slammed to the ground. Pittman didn't have an immediate update on Jefferson.

"He hit his head," Pittman said. "I don't know. I don't know where he's at to be honest with you. Obviously, we didn't bring him back in. I don't know any more than that."

Fortin was a former four-star quarterback out of Suwanee (Ga.) North Gwinnett High School. He transferred to Arkansas from South Florida in the offseason. Fortin also had one rush for nine yards in the game.

He started his career at North Carolina before transferring to USF. In his career prior to Arkansas, Fortin had played in 11 games with two starts. He was 61 of 121 passing for 610 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. He also had 27 carries for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

Hornsby hasn't attempted a pass this season, but does have three carries for 21 yards. He also has two receptions for eight yards. Entering the season, Hornsby had played in eight games with no starts. He had completed 5 of 12 passes for 46 yards. He also had 26 carries for 135 yards and a touchdown.
